"Please help me. I don't have any money," pleaded Pastor Ah Dee Che, crying and praying as he delivered a frail 6-year-old boy to the nearest hospital. Little Ah Phu Yi Sar had just arrived at Loving Fountain Children's Home in Myitkyina, Myanmar, though his health was failing fast.
HIV positive. The doctors did as they could to nurse dying Ah Phu Yi Sar back to health, and after two days of treatment he was stabilized by the grace of God. With the proper medication, he returned to the orphanage, where he has since grown stronger day by day.
"[Nimaˈʃaɹ]," is how Ah Phu Yi Sar describes that time of suffering. The Lisu word has no English equivalent strong enough to express an identical state of heart. It indicates a state of worry - a heart that is troubled, burdened, and poor.
But, "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven," Jesus said in Matthew 5:3. God did not forget about Ah Phu Yi Sar nor has he forgotten about any who are hurting, sick, or suffering. The eyes that see all beheld this orphan's tears and allowed it all that His glory might be displayed through the prayer, love, and faith of His people.
"I know Jesus Christ as Savior," eleven-year-old Ah Phu Yi Sar now says, after a fruitful five years at Loving Fountain. Through Sunday school lessons and the instruction of his Loving Fountain teachers, he has learned that he is "redeemed from sin." The same Jesus who restored his physical body from death restored his spiritual soul from eternal death.
"I wouldn't know about Jesus Christ if I [hadn't] come here," Ah Phu Yi Sar reflects. Furthermore, he shares of his many blessings: "I have a lot of friends here, so I am very happy. Here, I can eat, I can drink, I can dress." Ah Phu Yi Sar wants to thank the supporters of Loving Fountain for providing all of these things.
Ah Phu Yi Sar's favorite part of the day is learning in his fifth grade class. When asked what he would like to be when he grows up, the big word, "engineer" slips out with a tiny smile and bright eyes. His ambition is unique among his friends, and it is no surprise that The Lord has big plans for a boy so near to His heart.
